The Great Canadian Baking Show follows the format of the internationally popular Great British Bake Off.

Britain has a much longer history of having ethno-culturally and religiously diverse contestants, including women who veil, on its competitive reality TV Shows, with British Bangladeshi Nadiya Hussain winning the The Great British Bake Off in 2015.

Egyptian Canadian Reem Ahmed was a contestant on MasterChef Canada on CTV, a competition between amateur chefs from across the country, earlier this year.
